Mystic and Stonington CT

I left home at 8:45 a.m. after additional car repairs were done to try to fix the air conditioner. I could tell that this effort was not completely successful. As it turned out, the air conditioner ran about half the time it was turned on.

I had a detour because of heavy traffic and ended up running through Brooklyn on Rt 287 or something like that. This is the view of lower Manhattan from just under the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

I made my one hour rest stop in Stamford CT, rather than going on to New Haven. I did not want to miss most of a good day in Mystic.

My plan was to go to the Stonington Lighthouse Museum at the end of Water St. It was a beautiful day even though it was around 94o. I parked at the point near a public beach that was only about a block long. Almost no people were in sight.

The grounds of the lighthouse property were nicely kept. A couple of swans were swimming just past the sea wall. There had been swans at the same location as last year along Rt. 1 in a small salt water inlet. I did not stop to see them this time.

I saw some of the museum and then crawled up the very steep steps to a platform that supported a ladder.I then climbed the ladder with my various cameras strapped around my neck and arrived at the top where the fresnel lens is housed. A photo is at the top of this page.

Stonington from aircraft.

This is Skipper's Dock where I had wonderful BBQ salmon with shallot butter and a salad of beet greens, beets themselves, cucumbers in vinigrette.
