FRIDAY

I left at 6 a.m. to head to Providence and Boston. The ride was so easy that I just kept on going straight through toThe Commons.
I roamed around for an hour, took pictures of the swan boats, then got coffee and looked through the windows at Steinway Hall.

The sculpture of the Ducklings was wonderful. I sat on the mother duck but chose to have a picture taken just patting her.
The first Swan Boat ride was at 10:00. I felt like a kid again.

I remembered this cover in the pavement in front of Marye's the minute I saw it. I played with the glass inserts when I was a child and wanted to bring it home with Mummy and me.

Phyllis has lived across the street from Marye since 1957, but did not know her. She helped take a picture of me against the condo backdrop.
Just after Phyllis left, exactly at 12:00, sprinklers were set off on the grass in Commonwealth park where I was standing. I got soaked on my left side. Some sort of bitting insects were stirred up by the water, and they attacked my ankles, leaving them red and swollen. After positioning myself behind a tree for protection, I was able to continue picture taking. A man sleeping on the grass was awakened by the spray, and for a moment, I thought he believed I had tossed water on him. Then he seemed to realize where he was, and got up and left.

Below is a panorama of the block where Marye's apartment was located.

I found Cheers easily. The inside is not at all like the set, but the exterior of what is really the Bull and Finch is the actual building used. I don't like the place at all, but their souvenirs are good.

Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market
This really is a marketplace. The shops under the canopies must be seasonal. Bill Rodgers has a new Running Center near one of the exits, and he was there on Friday. He is so skinny that he probably never had any trouble with wind resistance in his running days.
I spent some time looking around. The buildings were interesting, and the narrow little streets in the older section of town gave me some idea of the character of Boston. Fidelity Investments and various banking institutions dominate in this area, followed by cultural or charitable organizations. There are many little hideaways for people to gather for coffee or lunch.

Rainforest Cafe
...stuffed flounder...Chocolate Banana Blast (fresh bananas, choc syrup, vanilla yogurt blended with Malibu Rum and Kahlua) Caribean rice and beans, and veg slaw. This restaurant is located in the the Burlington Mall, 12 miles north of Quincy Market. You might think of this as a theme restaurant. There are noisy thunder and lightening storms about every half hour to mimic the rainforest environment. The entire ceiling is covered with vegetation. My favorite part is the display put on by 2 animatronic elephants that were near my table. They were good enough to have been produced by Industrial Light and Magic.

Check in at Inn at Scituate Harbor and have a swim before bed.
